The NorthEast United FC finished fourth in the Hero ISL tournament in 2019, and could not make it to the finals because of small technical mistakes on ground.

Gerard Nus is from Spain, and started his professional career as a coach at the prestigious Liverpool FC’s Academy.

Officials of NorthEast United FC told Northeast Now on Tuesday that Gerard Nus has been picked up for the coaching responsibility primarily because of his methodical approach.

Because of his experience with the Liverpool Academy, Gerard is known to groom young talent.

It is going to help NorthEast United FC because the team has a lot of young members, and some of them are also from the region.

Gerard also served as Sporting Director for the Elche CF and Rayo Vallecano.

As a First Team Manager, he has managed Rayo OKC in the United States and FC Irtysh Pavlodar in Kazakhstan.

Gerard Nus was successful with the Ghana National Football Team, worked in close coordination with the head coach, Avram Grant.

“We were really impressed with Gerard’s vision for the team. He has coached all around the world and his profile speaks for itself,” Priya Runchal, executive director of NorthEast United FC, said.

Runchal said Gerard is known to develop budding talent whilst playing a brand of attractive attacking football.

“We are confident that he is the right appointment for the Club,” Runchal said.

“This is going to be my third stint in Asia and I have heard a lot of good things about the club, the fans, and the league from my former boss Avram Grant,” Gerard said.
