Along with the rest of the globe, the World Water Day was also celebrated in Namrup Engineering Institute during a function organised by The Institution of Engineers, Upper Assam Local Centre, Namrup.

The celebration started with  lighting of an earthen lamp by Amitava Das Gupta, FIE & GM (Project), OIL, Ashim Kumar Ghosh, General Manager (Unit), Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited (BVFCL), Diganta Goswami, Senior Manager, North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO) and Rajendra Singha, FIE & DGM  (S&E).

A seminar was also organized on the occasion.  The seminar was inaugurated with a welcome speech by Amritava Das Gupta, Chairman-cum-FIE &GM (Project), OIL.

In the seminar Diganta Goswami, Senior Manager, NEEPCO, who was present as the Guest of Honour, delivered a motivational speech on the theme ‘Nature of Water.

Goswami said, “In this 21st century, water crisis is becoming a major issue for the people across the world. Recently in South Africa’s capital Cape Town due to deforestation wet lands are becoming dry and now the people there are fighting for a drop of water.”

After that a technical seminar on the theme ‘Nature of water’ was organized where there was a good participation from different PSUs. In the technical seminar, Nipu Bhatt, Senior Engineer (Project), OIL delivered speech on ‘Rainwater Harvesting’, AHSI Rahman, Chief Chemist, BVFCL, delivered speech on ‘Rainwater Harvesting: The ultimate solution to  water crisis’, Shyamanta Kumar Sharma, MIE C, ENG, Deputy Manager (Elect), APL, delivered speech on ‘Water pollution and control’.

A felicitation session was also held on the occasion where mementos were presented to all the chairmen of different PSUs present in the programme.

Prizes were also distributed to the participators of essay, drawing, poster and self-created poems.

A cultural nite was also organized on the occasion where a number of artistes of Namrup performed. The seminar was also attended by Debajeet Sarma, Safety Officer, Assam Gas Company Ltd, Duliajan, Rupjyoti Bordoloi, DGM (production service support), OIL and others.
