In a horrific case of witch-hunting, a sexagenarian was lynched while three of his family members were injured, one seriously, including a 2-year-old child in a village under Bakalia PS of Karbi Anglong district.
The witch-hunting incident took place at Disobai area, 53 kms from here, under Bakalia Police Station of Karbi Anglong district and under the jurisdiction of the same police station, this is the second such incident within a month.

Nineteen people have been arrested in this connection and a case (No. 105/18) has been registered under sections 302 /325 of the IPC R/W Section- 4(i)/5/9(i)/11 of Assam Witch-hunting (Prohibition, Prevention and Protection) Act 2015.
According to police, villagers of Lunse Timung village, under Bakalia Police Station, killed Socheng Teron alias Longki Teron, aged more than 60 years, during a meeting called at the village headman’s residence on Saturday evening with kicks, slaps, sticks and brick batting.
Teron’s son, Bimal Teron, who tried to save his father, was also attacked and seriously injured along with his sister Ka-et Teronpi and two-year-old granddaughter of the deceased, Raje Teronpi.

The people, on being informed, rescued Bimal Teron, his sister Ka-et Teronpi and the child.
Bimal Teron is undergoing treatment for his injuries.
A team of police officers arrived from Diphu at Bakaliaghat on Saturday evening.
Family members of the victim informed the media that Dhaniram Rongpi and Tom Ingti visited the victim’s residence at Langtuk Terang village, also known as Mouzadar village, and called him to a meeting at the residence of the village headman of Lunse Timung village on Saturday.
When the victim Teron arrived at Lunse Timung village headman’s residence, the mob already assembled there started attacking him by throwing a fishing net over him. Teron was killed after torture of more than an hour.
Those who have been arrested include two village headmen.
The arrested have been identified as Dilip Sing Timung (23), Jirsong Timung (19), Kamal Timung (20), Gobin Timung (24), Shankar Timung (21), Arun Timung (20), Biren Sing Timung (28), Sarthingri Hanse (20), Khiram Timung (20), Jen Timung (35), Longri Timung (25), village headman Riso Timung (42), Ananda Teron (28), Jirsong Timung (17), Babuson Ingti (30), Rajit Singnar, Barun Timung (30), Mirjeng Ingti (18) and Kamal Sing Rongpi (54).
