Dimapur police recently busted a gang of vehicle lifters with the help of a village council and youth organisation here.

Dimapur police in a press release on Friday said Chumukedima police arrested three vehicle lifters with the help of Chumukedima Village Council and Chumukedima Youth Organization from different hideouts here on May 18.
Two motorcycles, a Suzuki Gixxer and a Royal Enfield, were recovered by police while conducting multiple raids in their hideouts.
The three arrested have been identified as Janthungo Murry, 27, of Wokha village, Wochumo Ngullie, 23, of Shaki village and Zachumo Murry of Wokha village, all under Wokha district. They were residing in different areas here.

One of the accused Zachumo Murry was detained at Peducha police outpost under Kohima district while he was proceeding to Wokha. A black Royal Enfield motorcycle (NL 07M 0611) was recovered from his possession.
During investigation the arrested members of the vehicle lifters gang revealed that they were involved in inter-district bike lifting and in numerous other crimes. Vehicles stolen in Wokha were disposed off in Dimapur and vice versa.
A Royal Enfield motorcycle of a local journalist was stolen from Super Market here on the night of May 16. His bike still remained untraced. Losing hope of recovery, he said he has claimed insurance of his motorcycle.
A “captain” of GPRN/NSCN and another resident of 4th Mile Dimapur were arrested along with one stolen Hero Splendor motorcycle on May 24. The police release said the gang is involved in vehicle theft and receiving and disposing of stolen vehicles.
Dimapur police acknowledged the contribution of Chumukedima Youth Organisation in busting this vehicle lifters racket.
