Dimapur: Nagaland governor La Ganesan said the unresolved Naga political issue is a major impediment to the state’s development and welfare goals.
In his address on the first day of the 4th session of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly at Nagaland Legislative Assembly Secretariat in Kohima on Monday, Ganesan called upon all stakeholders of the issue to transcend differences and work towards a final solution through dialogue and compromise. He reaffirmed the state government’s unwavering commitment to facilitating a peaceful resolution.
He expressed his appreciation to the members of the House for their steadfast dedication toward achieving a peaceful and early resolution of the issue.
He reiterated his government’s readiness to pave the way for a final solution that is honourable, acceptable, and inclusive, emphasizing the collective interest of the people of Nagaland.
The governor highlighted the paramount importance the state government places on nurturing and developing human resources, recognising the immense potential inherent in Nagaland’s demographics.
He said to ensure the educational system remains dynamic and responsive to evolving trends, various interventions have been initiated by the school education department.
These include bolstering education management information systems, implementing a teacher attendance monitoring system, and establishing professional learning communities for continuous professional development, he added.
Ganesan said the government is actively pursuing the establishment of an Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) in Nagaland in collaboration with the central government.
“This endeavor aims to elevate the state’s higher education landscape, promote science and mathematics education, and foster research initiatives. The acquisition of 200 acres of prime land in Sukhovi, Chumoukedima district, underscores the government’s commitment to this initiative,” he stated.
Ganesan said the state youth resources and sports department spearheaded the construction of five pre-fabricated multi-discipline sports stadiums last year with 11 more underway, including a FIFA standard football stadium with synthetic turf and floodlights at Chumoukedima.
On infrastructure development, the governor the Nagaland PWD (R&B) and PWD (NH) successfully upgraded over 1021.63 kilometers of roads in the previous fiscal year, with plans to construct and improve more than 1032 kilometers in the current year.
He also highlighted various other development projects taken up by the government in the state.
