Union Minister for Women and Child Development Maneka Gandhi on Friday congratulated mountaineer Anshu Jamsenpa and wished her many more laurels when the later called on the former at her Shastri Bhawan office here.
The minister advised her to start an enterprise in the Northeast to train “women only” in the field of adventure and allied sports. She cited the example of Thinlas Chorol, founder of Ladakhi Women’s Travel Company who is successfully transforming lives of several women in Ladakh region.
Jamsenpa said the meeting with the minister was a nice experience. “It was full of positive talks. Maneka Gandhi wants me to work for women empowerment and sustainable livelihood. I have assured her I will do my best in this regard and hope that I will get all the support and assistance to carry forward the mission,” she said after the meeting.
Dr Jamsenpa was felicitated by the minister with the prestigious ‘First Ladies’ award instituted by her ministry at Rashtrapati Bhavan on January 20. A few days ago, President Ram Nath Kovind presented her with India’s highest adventure sports award – Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award.
Dr Jamsenpa was accompanied by Arunachal Mountaineering and Adventure Sports Association President Tsering Wange and veteran adventurer, Captain Raj Kumar.
