Union minister Kiren Rijiju congratulates Indian fencer Bhavani Devi for qualifying for Tokyo Olympics

Union minister of state for youth affairs and sports on Monday lauded Indian fencer CA Bhavani Devi for qualifying for the Tokyo Olympics.

The 27-year-old became the first Indian woman to qualify for fencing in the Olympic Games.

The Olympic Games, which were to be held in Tokyo in Japan last year had to be deferred because of the Covid-19 pandemic and will be held from July 23 to August 8 this year.

The young fencer hails from Tamil Nadu and ranks 45th in the world at present.

Devi had managed to secure a spot in the World Cup in Hungary through the Adjusted Official Ranking method.
