ULFA (I) cadres are planning to carry out a major offensive in upper Assam during Durga Puja. Intelligence sources said a team of ULFA (I) and NSCN (K) rebels have sneaked into Tinsukia district through Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh from its bases in Eastern Nagaland.
Sources said ULFA (I) commander-in-chief Paresh Barua has directed the members of the banned outfit to carry out attacks in different parts of the upper Assam districts.
Meanwhile, following intelligence reports that a team of ULFA (I) and NSCN (K) rebels are holed up at Warabasti under Jagun police station in Tinsukia district along Arunachal Pradesh border; security forces have launched massive operations in the area since Saturday.
Sources said troops of Army and CRPF along with Assam police have cordoned off the area.
On the other hand, sources said a nine-member team of NDFB (S) militants has planned to lay down arms.
“A nine-member team of NDFB (S) rebels including four women cadres has already left for Assam from its Taga camp recently. Very soon they would surrender with arms before the police,” sources said.
