COVID-19 has claimed the life of yet another medical professional.

An Indian-origin doctor of the United Kingdom, Manjeet Singh Riyat died on Monday after being infected by coronavirus.

Riyat was an emergency medicine consultant who was hugely respected and much loved by colleagues and patients in Derbyshire, according to reports.

He got his medical qualifications from the University of Leicester in 1992.

He became the first Sikh accident and emergency consultant in the National Health Service, and was instrumental in building the emergency medicine service in Derbyshire, his hospital trust was quoted as saying.

Riyat has left behind his wife and two sons.

Earlier this month, cardio-thoracic surgeon Jitendra Kumar Rathod, who gained his qualifications in India and moved to the UK, passed away in Wales.

Britain’s health officials have paid tributes to other Indian-origin medical professionals who passed away in recent days, including Jitendra Kumar Rathod, Vivek Sharma, Rajesh Kalraiya, Krishan Arora, Amrik Bamotra, Sophie Fagan and Pooja Sharma.
