It seems fake currency note racketeers have remained active in the State.

This has come to light with the Udalguri Police claiming to have busted a major fake currency note racket from Azara of Guwahati and arrested five persons at about 11 pm on Monday.

The gang members were apprehended along with a Mahindra Scorpio vehicle.

The fake currency note racketeers have been identified as 36-year-old Krishna Sonar of Tinsukia, 35-year-old Muzibur Rahman of Azara under Kamrup, 55-year-old Pulin Dutta of Hatigaon under Kamrup, 23-year-old Aarjul Ali of Azara and Firoz Ali of Boko under Kamrup (Rural) district.

As per the revelations of the accused, they promulgated the modus operandi that special pigments are applied in A4 size papers to produce fake notes and then circulate those among the common people.

Meanwhile police are looking into various angles of the matter.

The five arrested have been booked vide Udalguri PS case no 90/18 under the IPC sections 489B/489D/489C/420.

Police sources have revealed that 27 original notes of Rs 500 denomination with face value of Rs 13,500 were also recovered from their possession.

The racket members had made a deal of providing fake Indian currency notes worth Rs 1 crore in exchange of original currency notes of Rs 25 lakh with a person when the police got the tip-off and swooped on them.
