Police on Monday arrested a youth on charges of raping an 8-year-old child at Bishalgarh in Tripura’s Sepahijala district.
The incident took place at KK Nagar Gram Panchayat area in Bishalgarh.
The arrested youth, identified as Sajal Bhowmik, is a neighbour of the rape victim.
According to sources, after learning about the incident from the child, her mother rushed to the Bishalgarh women’s police station on Sunday night and lodged a complaint seeking action from the police.
Immediately after receiving the complaint, a team from Bishalgarh women’s police station arrested the rapist.
The mother of the victim said her daughter went for fishing in river near the house of the accused, Sajal Bhowmik on Saturday afternoon.
Sajal called the child to his home and raped her, as revealed by the victim’s mother.
