Police arrested two youths following recovery of a woman’s decomposed body on Monday at Murabari in Bishalgarh under Tripura’s Sepahijala district.

The decomposed body has been identified as that of a woman identified as 55-year-old Krishna Bala Das.

The woman remained missing from her house for the last 5-6 days.

The body of the woman was recovered from a well.

Informing about the recovery of the body, Krishnendu Chakraborty, superintendent of police of Sepahijala district said the lady was a sanitation worker of Bishalgarh Municipality.

“The woman remained missing from her house for the last couple of days. She was a widow and her only son has also been missing from the area for the last few years,” the Sepahijala district police chief said.

The locals alleged that the lady was raped, murdered and then her body was thrown into a well near her house at Murabari.

On Sunday morning, the locals apprehended two youths namely Suman Das and Chandan Das on suspicion of being involved in the suspected rape and murder case.

The locals said they nabbed the two youth as their behaviours were seen abnormal after the incident.

“As the locals pressurised the two youths they confessed that the body was thrown into the well by them,” the police official said.

On the basis of the two youths’ confession, the police and district administration were informed.

A team of police immediately rushed to the spot and recovered the body.

Superintendent of police Chakraborty informed that the two youths have been arrested by the police.

However, the district police chief said it’s yet to be confirmed whether it was a murder or the woman was raped.

“The woman’s post-mortem will be conducted. Forensic team has also been asked to come to the spot for investigation. Everything will be clear only after investigation,” said Chakraborty.

The locals said the arrested youths often disturbed the woman and she had complained to the locals in this regard several times.
