Agartala: The GRP unit of the Tripura Police on Sunday arrested two residents of Bihar from Agartala Railway Station and seized a country-made gun and two live rounds from their possession.
Along with the firearm, the police also seized 100 bottles of banned cough syrup.
A case under relevant sections of the NDPS Act and the Arms Act has been registered against both accused, police officials said. The operation was carried out based on inputs from the Special Branch.
Briefing the media on the operation, DIG Rati Ranjan Debnath said, โActing on reliable intelligence inputs, the Government Railway Police carried out the operation. Both accused were arrested from the Rani Kamalapati Express. The firearm seized from their possession appears to be a country-made gun. Two live rounds were also recovered. All seized materials will be sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) to ascertain the nature of the gun.โ
He also said that an investigation is underway to trace the forward and backward links of both accused persons. โWe are investigating their route and the possible destination of the narcotic substances,โ he added.
According to Debnath, officials from the GRP, RPF and Special Branch have stepped up surveillance on railway routes and express trains.
