The indigenous party in Tripura- the TIPRA has written to Governor Satyadev Narayan Arya urging him to consider use of Roman script for Kokborok language.
The development has been informed by TIPRA chairman and Tripura royal scion Pradyot Debbarman on Wednesday.
“We have written to the governor for consideration of the Roman script to be used in Kokborok,” TIPRA chairman Pradyot Debbarman said.

He added: “This bill was passed by ADC on the August 7 2000. For 21 years this bill is with the Governor’s office. Either he should reject it or accept it. But to play with our people’s emotions is wrong.”

Notably, the TIPRA heads the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).

According to the All Tripura Indigenous Students’ Association (ATISA), there has been a long-pending demand for the introduction of Roman script for Kokborok language.
