According to sources, locals spotted the fire around 3 am on Tuesday and informed the fire service.
Locals claimed that the firefighters arrived late on the spot on time, due to which the fire spread wildly.
Agitated local residents reportedly harassed the firefighters after they finally reached the site.
Local MLA Surajit Datta visited the spot on Wednesday afternoon and spoke to the victims affected in the fire.
Sub-divisional magistrate, Ashim Saha also visited the area and provided an initial compensation of Rs 5000 to each of the affected shopkeepers.
Similar incidents of fire had occurred in Radhanagar, Maharajganj Bazar and Math Chowmuhani Market in Agartala in November this year.
