A rape survivor was tied to a pole and tortured by a village mob on Friday in Tripura’s Sepahijala district after the rapist’s family members allegedly killing the woman’s baby boy.
The woman from Srimantapur village under Sonamura police station has been admitted to hospital in a critical condition.

The woman, who recorded her statement at Sepahijala chief judicial magistrate (CJM)’s court said that her newborn baby boy was killed by the alleged rapist Anowar Hossein’s wife and other members of her family.
The woman said she became pregnant after she was raped multiple times by 38-year-old Hossain and she gave birth to the baby boy on October 8 at Sonamura Hospital.
The woman claimed she was raped by Hossain at her home taking the advantage of her husband’s absence.

She said she used to stay alone for last three and half years as her husband has been working abroad.
The accused allegedly threatened the woman to kill when she resisted him.
Later, when she informed the matter to village panchayat, they organised and a ‘Kangaroo court’ and instead of taking action against Hossein, held the woman guilty.
The panchayat members also allegedly pressurized the husband of the woman to dump her.
The woman was on Friday dragged from her house, tied to a roadside pole and mercilessly beaten up by the villagers.
She alleged rapist Anwar, his wife Saleha Khatun and two other members of their family–Akter Hossein, Roushanara Begum–also tortured her along with the villagers.
The woman said Anwar’s wife and her family members forcefully took her newborn baby and thrown him into Gomoti river.
On being informed a team of police rushed to the spot and rescued her.
Police registered a case and arrested Anwar Hossein, his wife Saleha Khatun and family member Akter Hossein in connection with the incident.
