Four persons, who were involved in the gang rape of a married woman in Agartala, were identified during the test identification (TI) parade by the victim.

This was informed by the public prosecutor, Bidyut Sutradhar, on Tuesday.

He said, “A total of nine people have been picked up in the gang rape case. And out of them, three are minors who have been sent to the Juvenile Justice Board.”

Bidyut Sutradhar said, “Rest of the six arrested people were produced in the TI parade on Monday where the victim identified four accused.”

The four rapists, who have been identified by the victim, are Priya Manish Roy, Dipak Das, Pradip Das and Prasenjit Adhikari.

Sutradhar said, “The six accused were produced before the Agartala district sessions court on Tuesday and the investigating officer sought five days’ police remand for them.”

“The public prosecutor informed that the judge of the Agartala district sessions court grated the plea of the investigating officer and sent all the six accused to police remand for five days,” he added.

It may be mentioned that a housewife was gang raped on September 24 night at Agartala.

The victim alleged that 10 culprits had gang raped her at Ushabazar area.

A case has been registered at West Agartala Women Police Station under sections 376D and 120B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The incident has led to widespread outrage in Tripura with the Opposition and women’s organizations demanding strict punishment to the culprits.
