The body of Liton Nath being recovered from the forest in Ranipara on Friday

The police on Friday recovered the body of Liton Nath from a forest at Ranipara in North Tripura district

National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) cadres had abducted Nath from his residence in Jayrampara area of Damchhara in North Tripura district on November 27

The banned outfit had demanded a ransom of Rs 1.5 lakh from the family of Nath, who was a fish seller by profession.

The police had failed to rescue him even after 45 days of his abduction.

According to police sources, NLFT cadres after abducting Nath, had murdered him and buried his body in the forest at Ranipara.

The police have sent the body for post mortem at a hospital in the Panisagar sub-division.

The spot from where the victim’s body was dug out falls under the Khedachhara police station.

Meanwhile, the police managed to locate the victim’s body based on information provided by four NLFT cadres during interrogation.

The police had picked up the four cadres from Takarjala area two days ago.

“During interrogation, the arrested NLFT cadres revealed that Nath had been killed and his body lay buried in the forest,” said a police official.

Nath is survived by his wife and four children.

His wife is engaged in soil cutting to run the family.
