The police on Tuesday nabbed three National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) rebels in Tripura’s Dhalai district in connection with the recent kidnapping of three workers.

The accused have been identified as Pathan Mohan Tripura (38), Jatindra Tripura (37) and Baishyajoy Tripura (38).

Police are interrogating the three rebels, who hail from Malda Kumar Para in Dhalai.

Suspected NLFT (BM) rebels had kidnapped three workers from Maldapara village under Ganganagar police station near the Indo-Bangladesh border in Dhalai on November 7.

These workers were engaged in the construction of a barbed-wire fence along the Indo- Bangladesh international border when the incident occurred.

The victims are Subash Bhowmik, a supervisor cum site manager, Subal Debnath, JCB (earth cutter) driver and Ganapati Tripura,  a labourer.

The National Building Construction Corporation (NPCC) had engaged them in the construction of the barbed wire fence.

The police have failed to trace the whereabouts of the victims even after 48 hours of the kidnapping.

Meanwhile, sources said that the police have identified the group of rebels involved in the kidnapping of the three workers and launched a massive search operation in the interior areas of Gandacherra along the Indo-Bangladesh international border.
