Lok Sabha MP and chief of Gana Surakha Party (GSP), Naba Sarania was detained by the police late on Tuesday night.
Naba Sarania was detained by the police for allegedly distributing money to the voters.
Naba Sarania was detained after violence broke out at Salakati in Kokrajhar district at around 11.30 pm.
Meanwhile, Naba Sarania has been released on bail.
Chaos rocked Kokrajhar following the detention of Sarania along with his supporters.
Miscreants gheraoed and allegedly reportedly attacked Sarania and his supporters.

The miscreants also damaged the vehicle of the Officer in-charge of the Salakati police outpost.
Naba Sarania, who was at first kept at the Salakati police outpost, was later shifted to the Kokrajhar Police Station.
Notably, campaigning for the second phase of Bodo Territorial Council (BTC) elections ended on Tuesday evening.
Voting for second phase of polling is scheduled for Thursday.
