Tripura on Monday celebrated the 111th birth anniversary of erstwhile King ‘Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya‘ (1923-1947).
Several programmes were organized across the State to celebrate this day at the initiative of the government as well as private organizers.
On Monday morning, several colourful rallies were organized by the people of Agartala.
The indigenous people took part in these rallies with much enthusiasm wearing their traditional attire.
In front of Ujjayanta Palace, which is the royal residence of Tripura and founded by Bir Bikram in 1901, people paid floral tribute to Bir Bikram.
BJP workers and supporters also celebrated this day.
In BJP party office, chief minister Biplab Deb paid floral tribute to the erstwhile king.
In his speech, Deb said Maharaja Bir Bikram was a visionary king and he was the architect of modern Tripura.
Deb also said that the new government is working in the direction of transforming Tripura according to the modern vision of the great King.
It is notable that, after coming to power in the state, the BJP has celebrated Bir Bikram’s birth anniversary at government initiative.
After BJP came to power, they renamed the Agartala Airport as Maharaja Bir Bikram Memorial Airport.
A photo exhibition was organized at Chandra Mahal by the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage, Tripura Chapter on Monday.
The exhibition showcased the life and time of erstwhile king Bir Bikram,
The chief minister’s wife Niti Deb, Congress leader Bhupen Borah and many other eminent personalities were present on the occasion.
Congress state president Pradyot Kishore who is the grandson of Bir Bikram was also one of the main organizers of various programmes of the 111th birth anniversary observance of the King.
