Agartala: West Tripura Public Prosecutor Biswajit Deb on Monday filed a defamation suit against Tripura Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury on behalf of Minister Sudhangshu Das, said Advocate Raju Datta, who would plead the court on behalf of Deb and Das.
Speaking to the media persons after filing the case, Datta said, “Leader of opposition Jitendra Chaudhury made baseless and concocted statements against honourable Minister Sudhangshu Das. In his media briefing, Chaudhury personally targeted the Minister and accused his brother of amassing wealth disproportionately using the minister’s political influence. All the allegations are baseless and unfounded. Due to these public statements, the Minister’s reputation was harmed and he was defamed.”
According to Datta, on behalf of the Minister Public Prosecutor of West Tripura District Court Biswajit Deb filed a complaint with the Session Judge West Tripura and he had been nominated as an advocate of the case.
“The statements were made on October 15, 2025. His statements were widely publicised throughout the state. The Leader Opposition also claimed that the brother of the Minister Himangshu Das was the highest tax payer of the state. He also alleged that family wealth recorded an unprecedented rise after the honourable Minister assumed his charge of office. All these statements are completely false and fabricated. West Agartala Public Prosecutor Biswajit Deb got the sanction by the order of the governor and filed the complaint in the session court. I have been appointed as an advocate to argue on behalf of the complainant,” Datta further explained.
