Assam: JEE aspirant found dead in Guwahati, suicide suspected

A man and a woman were found hanging from a single rope tied to a tree in a rubber garden at Kayadepa area of Kamalasagar in Tripura’s Sepahijala district on Monday.

According to police, the man, identified as Shankar Goswami, 44, and the woman, Purnima Das, 32, had an affair and they took the extreme step as the family members and the villagers did not approve of their relationship.

The woman, who was deserted by her husband several years back, was a mother of two children—an 11-year-old boy and a six-year-old girl.

Police said both of them were verbally abused by the villagers because of their affair.

The villagers even organized a kangaroo court, which asked the duo to stay away from each other.

Police recovered the bodies on Monday morning and sent to Madhupur Health Center for postmortem examination.
