A man killed his wife on the day of Maha Shasthi in Tripura.
The incident took place at Tepania of Udaipur Sub-division in the Gomati district on Thursday afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as 28-year-old Jharna Ghosh.
The family members of the woman have alleged that Jharna died after she was attacked by her husband, Rupak Ghosh, with a sharp weapon (dao).
Jharana’s father on Thursday alleged, “Rupak often tortured my daughter and last night also, he had beaten her.”
He said Jharna fled from her house and saved herself on Wednesday night.
Later she called her father over the phone and intimated him about the assault.
On Thursday noon, Jharna’s father went to her daughter’s in-laws’ house to see her.
The victim’s father said he wanted to take his daughter home but her husband, Rupak, stopped her saying that she would be able to go on Thursday.
And in the afternoon, Rupak again attacked Jharna with a sharp weapon (dao).
Rupak’s mother also admitted that her son had killed her daughter-in-law and fled from the house.
Seriously injured Jharna was taken to Tepania hospital but was declared dead.
The sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) of Udaipur, Dhruva Ranjan Nath, rushed to the spot and started an investigation.
Nath informed that the husband, who is accused of killing his wife, is now absconding.
Locals claimed Rupak was a mental patient.
