Agartala: The Tripura Left Front has announced a 12-hour bandh across the state on July 14 following the death of their Panchayat election candidate, Badal Shill (51).

Shill died after reportedly being assaulted by individuals allegedly backed by the BJP.

Narayan Kar, the Tripura Left Front Convener, detailed the incident at a press conference. On July 11, during the nomination submission process, CPIM workers were allegedly attacked by BJP supporters.

“As our workers were returning to Rajnagar under Belonia Sub-division in the South District, Badal Shill, who had submitted his nomination for the Panchayat elections, was viciously attacked with sharp weapons. Later, he was dragged out of his shop at Chottakhola market and assaulted again,” Kar claimed.

Shill was initially taken to Santirbazar District Hospital and then referred to GB Pant Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries following surgery.

“We, the Left Front, call on all citizens to protest this murder by supporting a 12-hour Tripura Bandh. We demand the state government take strict action against the perpetrators. Emergency services will be exempt from the bandh,” Kar added.
