The female ward of two main government hospitals in Tripura capital Agartala were closed on Thursday evening due to coronavirus spread.

Three nurses at GBP Hospital were tested COVID-19 positive.

They worked in the maternity ward.

Due to this, the maternity ward of GBP Hospital has been closed indefinitely from Thursday.

The operation theatre and labour room have also been closed.

West District health officer Dr Sangeeta Chakraborty informed about the development.

She said she has also informed the higher authorities about the matter.

The labour room and operation theatre of GBP Hospital are very crowded.

As a result, it is not always possible to maintain physical distance while on work.

All the staffs of this ward have primarily come in contact with those three COVID-19 positive nurses, she said.

All the doctors, nurses and other health workers in the department have been sent to quarantine.

They will go through the swab testing after five days.

The department will be sanitized within 48 hours.

Then it will be decided when it will be opened or not, said Dr Sangeeta.

GBP Hospital is the main and oldest hospital in Tripura.

The same situation is with IGM Hospital in Agartala.

It is the main referral hospital in the State.

The maternity ward of IGM hospital was also closed.

There is a patient in the hospital admitted to the maternity ward that tested COVID-19 positive.

It has been closed from July 7 last.

The work of sanitizing is going on in this hospital.

It may open from Friday.

But it is not sure till now, said district health officer.

They will take the decision after examining the situation.

All the pregnant ladies of these two hospitals have been shifted to TMC Hospital in Hapania.
