Guwahati: The Tripura government has cancelled the planned 26-day summer vacation for all government colleges, including technical and professional institutions, to maintain uninterrupted academic and administrative work.
As per an official notification issued on Friday by Higher Education Director Animesh Debbarma, the break that was scheduled to start from May 26 will no longer be observed, keeping student interests in mind.
The order states that colleges under the Higher Education Department will continue functioning during this period to support ongoing academic activities such as admissions for the 2026โ27 session, semester examinations, and routine administrative work.
Instead of the scheduled holiday, faculty members and staff will be granted 26 days of Earned Leave as compensation for working during the summer break period.
Officials said the decision has been influenced largely by the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) in the state, which has shifted colleges to a semester system and reduced the scope for long vacations.
Higher Education Director Animesh Debbarma said this change in academic structure is one of the key reasons behind cancelling the summer break.
The stateโs Higher Education Department currently oversees 22 government general degree colleges, along with a number of technical and professional institutions.
