In a bid to break the chain of COVID-19 transmission, Tripura is observing 24 hours total lockdown from Sunday morning.

The lockdown began from 5 am on Sunday and will end at 5 am on Monday.

With every day rise in COVID-19 positive cases, Tripura chief minister Biplab Deb has announced for total lockdown on Sunday.

Only emergency services will function and rest all to remain shut.

Epidemic Act is being imposed in the State on Sunday and people are asked to adhere to the lockdown norms.

Anyone found violating the lockdown rules will be strictly punished.

Security personnel are ensuring that total lockdown is being observed in the State and everyone stays at home.

However, it is likely that the lockdown might be extended further in the coming days, a source added.

Meanwhile, the COVID-19 tally in Tripura has reached to 1558 with 355 active cases.
