Reportedly the incident took place on Sunday afternoon when a CPI-M leader along with his supporters attacked the BJP Yuva Morcha workers with sharp weapon during their election rally at Dharmanagar.

Following that the BJP Yuva Morcha workers also retaliated.

At least 15 bikes and a car were set ablaze during the clash.

It may be mentioned here that the BJP Yuva Morcha workers were carrying out an election rally along with the candidates at Dharmanagar ahead of the Panchayat elections.

The ruling BJP party has lodged a complaint against 21 people, who were allegedly involved in the clash

However, coming down heavily on the ruling BJP and its government, CPI-M’s former MLA Amitabha Datta stated, “There is no democracy in the state. There is complete erosion of democracy in the state. I urge the authorities to look into the matter.”

As the situation in the Dharmanagar town remaining tense, the security has been beefed up with deployment of huge number of security personnel including Tripura State Rifles and Central Reserved Police Force (CRPF) personnel in several areas to avoid further clash.
