Agartala: The Tripura State Election Commission will publish the draft list of polling stations for the 2026 municipal elections on September 17, with the final list expected to be issued on September 25.
State Election Commissioner Dr P K Chakraborty announced the schedule through a notification outlining the process for publishing the draft list, inviting claims and objections, disposing of them and issuing the final polling station list.
As per the notification, citizens and other concerned parties can submit claims, objections and suggestions regarding the draft polling stations until September 21. The authorities will examine and dispose of the submissions by September 23 before publishing the final list two days later.
The schedule has been issued under Rule 3 of the Tripura Municipalities (Conduct of Election) Rules, 1995.
Under the notified procedure, District Municipal Election Officers, who are also the respective district magistrates, will publish polling station lists for municipal wards in their jurisdictions. The exercise will be carried out in accordance with Rule 7 of the Tripura Municipalities (Registration of Electors) Rules, 1995.
The State Election Commission has communicated the schedule to the District Municipal Election Officers and the relevant sub-divisional election authorities across North Tripura, Unakoti, Dhalai, Khowai, West Tripura, Sepahijala, Gomati and South Tripura districts.
The commission has also asked the Director of the General Administration (Printing and Stationery) Department to publish the notification in an additional edition of the Tripura Gazette.
The release of the final polling station list on September 25 will constitute another stage in the preparations for the municipal elections, following the completion of the claims and objections process.
The notification, however, did not specify the number of polling stations proposed in either the draft or final list.
