The opposition CPI-M in Tripura has accused three ruling BJP leaders of assaulting two women in the State’s Belonia sub-division in South district.
The CPI-M alleged that BJP leaders – Anand Debnath, Monindra Das and Bhuban Das – assaulted and thrashed two women while trying to “illegally seize” a land property.
The three BJP leaders are members of North Srirampur Gram Panchayat (Chottakhola) in Tripura.
The CPI-M also accused the BJP leaders of beating up the grandchildren of the two women.
The opposition party alleged that the three BJP leaders tried to “illegally seize” a land property belonging to the two victim women.
The two victims have been identified as Kanan Bala Das and Alorani Das from Das Para area of Siddhi Nagar under PR Bari police station in Belonia sub-division.
The three BJP leaders also allegedly vandalised a meat shop in the area owned by one Pradeep Das.
Meanwhile, the CPI-M further alleged that the police, despite being informed about the incident had showed reluctance in investigating the matter.
However, following intervention by local MLA – Sudhan Das, the police took up the case for investigation.
Meanwhile, Ranjit Sarkar – president of the ruling party’s Rajnagar Mandal Committee – alleged that the family had been occupying a piece of government land for a long time.
He further refuted the allegations of the CPI-M saying that none from the ruling party was involved in the incident.
“The opposition has filed a false case to discredit the ruling party. They are seeking to destroy peace and harmony in the area,” the BJP leader said.
Speaking to Northeast Now, SDPO Soumya Debbarma said: “An incident over boundary dispute took place under PR Bari police station, OC of the police station visited the spot and investigation is underway.”
