On New Year, Tripura chief minister Biplab Kr Deb visited the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Old Age Home at Narsingarh and had lunch with the inmates.
The chief minister celebrated the New Year with the elders at the old age home, spent time with them and got their blessings.
He also fed some of the inmates with sweets.
After reaching the old age home, the Tripura CM inspected the entire campus and the facilities provided to the inmates.
Peeved at the poor condition of the old age home, the CM chided the secretary to the social welfare department, Chaitanay Murthi and the director of the department, Guncha Sanobar, who accompanied him.
The CM asked the secretary and the director of the social welfare department why they don’t inspect the condition of the old age home regularly and take corrective steps.
The officers tried to justify their inaction but the CM told them to be more careful of their duties as well as to ensure proper development and maintenance of the home, meant for the hapless old people.
After inspecting the old age home, CM wrote on his facebook post: “Their unconditional love gives me energy to work harder for the welfare of our State.”
“I wish everyone a prosperous 2020 ! Started my New Year 2020 with a visit to an old age home in Agartala. Elated to spend some good times with them and will cherish the memories for long,” he added.
Chief minister Deb also distributed clothes to the inmates of the old age home.
Deb informed that there are 37 female and 12 male inmates living in the old age home.
He said the authority concerned should take more care to them.
