The new BJP-IPFT government in Tripura is introducing privatization in various sectors including education and even mid-day meal.
This was announced the state chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Sunday.
He also said unlike the previous Left Front government, his government is committed to bring in qualitative changes through education.
He was speaking to reporters at the Pragna Bhavan in Agartala on the sidelines of a seminar ‘Tribal Education in India: Issues and Challenges’.
Referring about the differences of opinion between the previous Left Front government and which has emphasized on number but without quality and has always been against privatization, Deb said.
“We have differences of opinion and after privatization, be it in education or infrastructure, it has been proved that the quality improves,” he said.
He added that basically the task of the government is to provide the system, implement and follow-up it.
He also said that when entrepreneurship develops, the economy of the state grows and also the GDP.
The young chief minister viewed that privatization necessarily is not evil rather if it can be properly implemented under proper monitoring then it rather brings competitive attitude.
He said it improves the quality and thus the new government has decided to introduce private players in the improvement of education system in the State.
He said the government will not hesitate to bring private players like ISCON in the mid-day meal scheme for the school students of the day shift up to eighth standard.
Other speakers at the seminar organized by Institute of Advance Studies in Education, Kunjaban were Professor Sujit Ghosh, chairman, MAKIAS, Kolkata; Dr Kiran Shankar Chakraborty, regional director, IGNOU, Agartala and few others.
