Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Monday said the state government would enforce the rule of law with โzero toleranceโ towards post-poll violence, and announced financial assistance of Rs 64.50 lakh for 258 affected families.
The chief minister said a high-level meeting with the Director General of Police, Chief Secretary and cabinet ministers would be convened soon to review the situation and decide on measures to curb the violence.
โIt has been decided to support 258 families in the first phase who have been badly affected by the recent violence. An amount of Rs 64.50 lakh has been approved from the Chief Ministerโs Relief Fund,โ Saha said.
Issuing a warning against those involved in violence, he alleged that such incidents had become a recurring feature after elections and must be stopped. He said the government would take steps to ensure that law and order is maintained across the state.
โLaw still exists in our land and we will establish the rule of law,โ the Chief Minister said, adding that a meeting involving senior officials and ministers would determine the future course of action.
Saha said he had been monitoring the situation and remained in contact with party leaders visiting affected areas. He also referred to interactions with party workers who have taken shelter at the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Youth Hostel in Agartala following the violence.
On the recent TTAADC polls, the Chief Minister said his party received over two lakh votes, while the Tipra Motha Party secured more than four lakh votes. He said organisational issues, if any, would be addressed internally, but added that supporters should not be subjected to intimidation.
He said arrangements would be made to ensure that displaced party workers could return to their homes.
The Chief Minister also appealed to party workers to refrain from any retaliatory actions.
There was no immediate response from the Tipra Motha Party to the allegations.
