Agartala: The Tripura state council of ministers has approved the implementation of the Centreโs โNari Adalatโ scheme on a pilot basis in 10 gram panchayats of the state and cleared a series of recruitment and welfare proposals, cabinet spokesperson and Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said on Thursday.
Briefing reporters about the decisions taken at the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Manik Saha on Wednesday, Chowdhury said the Nari Adalat scheme, launched by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, would be implemented in selected panchayats across eight districts.
โA new scheme called Nari Adalat will be launched in the state as a pilot project in 10 panchayats as per the direction of the Centre,โ he said.
The selected panchayats include Fulbari in North Tripura, Srirampur in Unakoti, West Sonatala in Khowai, Lembucherra in West Tripura, Khedabari in Sepahijala, Tepania in Gomati, Vivekananda Palli in South Tripura, and Singanala, Halahali, and North Halahali in Dhalai district.
โA panchayat-level committee with no more than nine members will be constituted. Socially recognized persons will be inducted, and they will have powers to adjudicate matters related to atrocities against women and suggest police action where necessary,โ the minister said.
He added that the bodies would function as arbitration forums at the panchayat level. โThe scheme has been introduced to provide a platform for women who feel hesitant to approach police or other law enforcement agencies,โ Saha said.
The cabinet also approved guidelines for providing coaching to graduates domiciled in Tripura for national-level competitive examinations conducted by UPSC, SSC, RRB, and IBPS.
โCoaching centres will be established at Bir Chandra State Central Library in Agartala, Netaji Subhash Mahavidyalaya in Udaipur, and Government Degree College in Ambassa, with an intake of 100 aspirants in each centre. Selection will be on merit through a screening test conducted by the Higher Education Department,โ he explained, stating that budgetary allocations had been made for these centres in the last budget.
According to the minister, the cabinet also approved a proposal to increase daily stipends for SC hostel boarders from Rs 80 to Rs 100. This decision will benefit as many as 712 students across 33 boysโ hostels, 20 girlsโ hostels, and one NGO-run hostel operating across the state.
โThe cabinet further cleared the recruitment of 32 junior drivers in the Health and Family Welfare Department on a fixed pay basis through direct recruitment to be conducted by the Transport Department. Apart from that, a total of 10 revenue inspectors and six assistant survey officers will also be recruited through the Tripura Public Service Commission. All the recruitments will be done in compliance with the existing reservation rosters,โ he added.
