Agartala: Tipra Motha Party supremo and Member of District Council (MDC) Pradyot Kishore Debbarman on Tuesday asserted that the BJP lacks the political strength to pose a serious challenge to his party in the forthcoming elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).
Addressing a party meeting and yarn distribution programme at Pekuarjala, Debbarman said the BJP does not match Tipra Motha in organisational strength or public support within the TTAADC. An electoral contest, he maintained, is meaningful only between parties of comparable stature.
He also alleged that attempts were being made to take control of TTAADC land in areas such as Bishramganj and Kanchanpur. Urging supporters to remain patient and strategic, he said the time had come to act with calculation and restraint.
Expressing confidence in the future of the Tiprasa community, Debbarman said he hoped to see a member of the community occupy the Chief Ministerโs post in Agartala one day.
Calling for discipline among party workers, he advised them not to react to criticism from leaders of the BJP, Congress and the CPI(M). He alleged that BJP leaders show heightened interest in the Tiprasa community during election periods and asked supporters not to obstruct their activities. Internal divisions for political reasons, he cautioned, would weaken the communityโs collective position.
Debbarman reiterated that his political objective goes beyond electoral gains. His broader vision, he said, is to ensure that children from economically weaker sections of the Tiprasa community become stakeholders in the stateโs future.
He added that the party would continue to press the government to fulfil the demands of the TTAADC, including improved infrastructure, protection of land rights and other essential requirements. Ministerial positions alone, he said, would not be sufficient to address the councilโs needs.
