Agartala: Tipra Motha Party chief Pradyot Kishore Debbarman on Sunday asserted that his party is poised to form the government in the 2028 Tripura Assembly elections, amid signs of strain within the ruling alliance.

Addressing a party programme at South Hadrai Village Council, Debbarman said his party would capture power in 2028. Referring to claims by another party about winning control of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) in 2026, he said, “Bubagra will capture the Assembly in 2028.”

Without naming any party, he alleged that certain political leaders become visible only during elections, attempting to project themselves as representatives of the people. “Over the past five years, I have travelled across the state and remained present among the people at different times. How can leadership be claimed in the absence of consistent engagement?” he asked.

Debbarman also responded to criticism from rival parties, noting that some were making statements about sending him to jail or seeking control over land that, he said, legally belongs to indigenous communities. He emphasised that while communities across the state may have distinct identities, they face similar challenges.

Highlighting economic concerns in TTAADC areas, Debbarman said these regions are rich in resources, including rubber plantations and ONGC exploration sites, but alleged that most revenue generated is spent in Agartala and surrounding areas. “Votes in urban and remote areas carry equal value, yet resource allocation remains uneven,” he said.

At the programme, party sources said, 150 voters from 30 families associated with various political parties joined Tipra Motha in Debbarman’s presence, signalling growing support for the party.
