BJP candidate Mini Majumder on Friday registered victory in the Badharghat Assembly bypolls in Tripura.

She defeated her nearest rival CPI (M)’s Bulti Biswas by a margin of 5259 votes.

Election Commission officials said ruling BJP candidate Majumder got 20,487 votes while her nearest rival Bulti Biswas of the CPI (M) secured 15,212 votes.

Congress candidate Ratan Chandra Das managed 9,105 votes while SUCI (C) contender Mridul Kanti Sarkar bagged only 470 votes.

The officials said that 667 votes were cast in NOTA category.

The polling was held on September 23. Over 79 per cent of the 57,906-strong electorate cast their votes in the Badharghat Assembly by-poll.

Expressing happiness over the poll results, Majumder said she will try to fulfil the expectations of the people of her constituency.

“The People of my constituency have reposed faith on me. I will try to work for their welfare.”

Badharghat constituency seat fell vacant following the demise of sitting MLA BJP Dilip Sarkar on April 1 this year.

Sarkar elected from the constituency in 2018 assembly polls.
