Tripura education minister Ratan Lal Nath on Friday said that the government has approved the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act 2009.
Nath said that the amended form of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act was earlier passed by the Parliament.

The Act is to abolish the no detention policy till class VIII and enabling the state government to allow schools to fail students.
The Parliament had passed the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act (Amendment) Bill, 2019 in January this year.
According to the amended form of the Act, students of Class V and Class VIII will have to sit for regular examinations in order to be promoted to Class VI and Class IX respectively.

However, if the students of Class V and Class VIII cannot pass the examination, he/she will be allowed to give a second examination within a period of two months.
The students who still cannot pass the second examination will then be detained in their respective classes.
However, as per the amended Act, there will be detention for students up to Class IV.
Nath also said that five marks can be given as grace marks to students having 85 per cent attendance.
He also said that headmasters of the schools will have a special power for giving relaxation to differently abled students and promoting them.
