Members of the Joint Movement Against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (JMACAB) failed to meet union home minister Amit Shah in New Delhi, even after staying for ten days in the national capital.

“We stayed in New Delhi for 10 days and hope to meet Amit Shah and speak to him regarding CAA, however, the union minister did not meet us,” said JMACAB leader Jagadish Debbarma while talking to Northeast Now.

“We will declare our next course of action soon,” Debbarman added.

The six-member JMACAB delegation that went to New Delhi returned to Tripura on Saturday.

“On December 12, 2019, we had a meeting with Amit Shah regarding CAA. In that meeting, we urged Shah not to implement CAA in Northeast including Tripura,” Debbarman said.

“At that time the home minister did not promise anything but said he would inform us regarding the government’s stand,” he added.

“After that, we came back to Tripura and waited for Shah’s response. But even after waiting for more than three weeks, the home minister did not respond and we began our movement against CAA,” he further said.

“The CM on January 8 assured us that Amit Shah will meet us and accordingly we went to New Delhi again on January 9, but the home minister did not meet us,” Debbarman said.
