The parties include the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ally in Tripura, the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT).

According to a media report, with the leaders of the parties, Amit Shah will have discussions on the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), 2019.

Despite being a partner in the BJP-led coalition government in Tripura, the IPFT has joined the anti-CAA movement.

The political party resumed its anti-CAA agitation after a month with a sit-in protest at Khumulwng, the headquarters of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), for the 11th day on Thursday.

Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K. Sangma also said in Shillong that he would lead a delegation of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) to meet Amit Shah and urge him to implement Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Meghalaya.

Following protest demanding implementation of ILP in Meghalaya, the Meghalaya Assembly on December 19 unanimously adopted a resolution, requesting the Centre to promulgate the ILP in the state.

The resolution and the state gazette notification have been communicated to the central government.

A media report quoted Joint Movement against Citizenship Amendment Bill (JMACAB) leader and Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura (INPT) general secretary Jagadish Debbarma as saying: “We are in Delhi for the past few days, but are yet to meet the home minister due to his prior engagements outside Delhi. The meeting will be on Friday.”

It has been reported that a four-member IPFT delegation, led by party president Narendra Chandra Debbarma and general secretary Mevar Kumar Jamatia left Agartala on Thursday to attend the meeting.

While Debbarma is the Tripura revenue and fisheries minister, Jamatia is the tribal welfare and forest minister of the state.
