A huge consignment of contraband Yaba tablets was seized by an alert jawan of the Border Security Force (BSF)’s 166th Batallion on Monday at Dharmanagar in Tripura. As per reports, BSF jawan SK Singh during a routine patrolling duty at the border noticed that a middle-aged woman with a child in her lap and holding a bag was walking along the No Man’s Land.

BSF jawan Singh got suspicious over the woman’s movement and “closely followed her” from a distance. Realising that the BSF jawan was keeping an eye on her, the lady threw the bag in the nearby jungle and ran away from the said area. However, the jawan seized the bag and found in it 20 packets of Yaba tablets, 190 tablets in each strip amounting to Rs 500 per tablet. The cost of the entire consignment comes to around Rs 19 lakh.

Singh brought the seized bag to Yakubnagar Border Outpost (BOP) but, despite his best efforts, he couldn’t arrest the lady as there was no woman police with him. The jawan has identified the lady as one Nazma. However, further investigation is on.

It is reported that the smugglers of Yaba tablets mostly use women and children as couriers to carry the smuggled goods to their customers. Yaba is mostly popular among those who suffer from sexual or mental problems. Some unscrupulous doctors and chemists prescribe and sell pills laced with Yaba, for immediate relief!
