A woman was killed and her brother on Tuesday was grievously injured in an accident at Agnibhasha in Tripura’s Panisagar sub-division.

The accident occurred when a bike collided head on with an ambulance at Agnibhasha.

The deceased has been identified as 32-year-old Joni Charui.

Her brother Nianoibul Charui (27) is admitted in the district hospital in Dharmanagar with injury on his leg and head.

Joni hailed from a poor family in Halam Basti area.

After completing her nursing course, she had reportedly applied for a job in the Tripura health department and was called for an interview.

Since the inter-state communication is prohibited during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, she had to reserve a car for which she did not have money.

Finally, she set out on a bike with her brother to Agartala at 4 am on Tuesday to appear in the interview.

Their vehicle then collided head on with the ambulance, killing the victim on the spot.

Police and family of the victim soon reached the spot.

The body has been sent for autopsy.

The police have registered a case of unnatural death.
