Hundreds of supporters of CPIM affiliated trade union CITU took part in a protest in front of Agartala city center on Friday.
The protestors were demanding for work and food.

They alleged that after a change in the regime six months back and the BJP-IPFT government came to power in Tripura after the 25 years Left rule there is an acute crisis of food and work.
CPIM MP Sankar Prashad Datta said, “Though during the last Left Front government’s year they have provided 82 days work but here in the BJP regime in last six months they provided 33 days work allocation in their budget and till today only 10 to 15 days work have been done. Only in Tripura urban project was launched in the name of Urban Employment Program. It is a state program, Left Front government started it. Earlier people got 75 days work but this year under BJP rule they have provided only 33 days work and till today only 10 to 15 days work was done. ”
Datta also the CITU general secretary of Tripura added: “In the coming days festivals will be held throughout the country and also in our state. In this festival period people are starving throughout the state. So we from the CITU are demanding that people should get REGA and TWIP work and their remuneration and wages should be cleared.”

He said this problem of crisis of food and work is prevalent throughout the country but more serious in Tripura.
The MP also alleged that supporters of the pulling parties are extorting money from people engaged in various works like the pump operator, ICDS workers, ASHA, and others.
