The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has claimed that a 16-member MPs delegation of the party was denied an appointment with union home minister Amit Shah.

The TMC MPs delegation had arrived in New Delhi to meet home minister Amit Shah and discuss the political situation in Tripura.

“Why was an appointment denied? Why is the home minister of this country not bothered about the safety and security of people of this country?” the TMC questioned.

It added: “Mr Amit Shah we deserve an answer! We urge you to immediately address the situation in Tripura.”

The TMC MPs delegation also staged a protest outside the Ministry of Home Affairs at North Block in Delhi after they were allegedly denied an audience with home minister Amit Shah.

Earlier on Sunday, the Tripura police had arrested TMC leader Sayani Ghosh on attempt to murder charges based on a complaint filed by the BJP.

Notably, a fresh round of political violence has erupted in Agartala following the arrest of TMC youth Congress president Sayani Ghosh by the Tripura police on Sunday on attempt to murder charges.

The police station where Sayani Ghosh has been kept under arrest came under attack twice on Sunday allegedly by “BJP-sheltered goons”.

On the other hand, senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Abhishek Banerjee has slammed the Biplab Deb-led BJP government in Tripura for the recent political violence in the state.

Speaking to the media after arriving in Agartala on Monday morning, Abhishek Banerjee said that “what’s happening in Tripura has never happened anywhere in India”.

He was referring to the attacks on TMC workers and leaders in the state allegedly by “BJP-sheltered goons”.

“Democracy is being murdered in Tripura,” said TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee after landing at the Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in Agartala.

Meanwhile, the ruling BJP in Tripura has alleged that the TMC, CPI-M and the Congress are in a “shadow alliance” and their ultimate motive is to malign Tripura.

This statement from the BJP came just hours after TMC leader Sayani Ghosh was arrested on the charges of criminal conspiracy, promoting enmity between two groups and attempt to murder.
