The scion of Tripura’s royal family Pradyot Deb Barman has welcomed union home minister Amit Shah’s announcement of implementing a pan India NRC with a common cut-off date.

“I welcome the Centre’s decision of implementing NRC across India,” Deb Barman said in a video shared on his Facebook page.

“We should have a national NRC and Tripura should be the first state where it needs to be implemented,” he added.

“Bonafide Indian citizens must enjoy the facilities and not by the illegal migrants,” he reiterated

“The NRC should be based on caste, creed, religion and language. No one should be discriminated irrespective whether he is a Hindu, Muslim, or Bengali,” Deb Barman added.

“Just on the basis of some doubt, a person should not be discriminated and every Indian citizen must be included in the NRC,” he reiterated.

He also advocated for a National Refugee Policy (NRP) in the country for distinguishing among the genuine refugees and the illegal migrants.
