The Indian Institute of Horticulture Research Scientist in Bengaluru of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) is working on the forest mushrooms collected from Tripura to make it commercial, said Meera Pandey, principal scientist in Mushroom Lab in ICAR IIHR in Bengaluru.

The principal scientist shared the views during an interaction with visiting journalists from Tripura on a press tour organized by Press Information Bureau, Agartala.

She said that the institute is experimenting with the production technology of the mushroom from Tripura. Dr Pandey said that the Northeast due to its climate can become a power house in production and sale of mushroom and many varieties of mushroom can only be found here in the north-eastern states.

She also added that through mushroom cultivation the Northeast can bring economic revolution.

The Indian Institute of Horticulture Research in Bengaluru is experimenting with different seeds of vegetable fruits and also medicinal plants.

Many of the high yielding seeds produced are bringing smiles to the face of the farmers as these seeds not only give high yield of the crops but also help in doubling farmers’ income.
