Mahesh Kumar Singhla, special secretary of Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA)’s internal security wing is in Tripura to streamline the repatriation process of Bru refugees to Mizoram.

On Sunday Singhla held a crucial meeting with District Magistrate (DM), North Tripura, Raval H Kumar to streamline the proposed repatriation of over 30,000 refugees.

Notably, a section of refugees are resorting to hunger strike for the last couple of days opposing repatriation to Mizoram.

According to the tripartite agreement, all the internally displaced Bru people sheltered in six relief camps will have to go back to their homeland- Mizoram by September 30 while all the relief camps should be shut down by first week of October.
