Condemning the statement of Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb targeting the media, journalists across the state wore black badges.

CM Deb on September 11, while attending a programme in Sabroom, said that some media outlets were publishing “fake COVID-19 news” and that the government “will act strictly against them”.

He also said that such media houses “won’t be spared”.

The journalist bodies considered this statement as a threat and condemned it vehemently.

Not only the journalists’ bodies, but even the opposition political parties criticised this statement vehemently.

The protesting journalists and the leaders from the political parties gave CM Deb an ultimatum to withdraw his statement.

They also submitted a memorandum to Tripura Governor RK Bais.

Veteran journalist and editor of Syandan Patrika Subal Dey informed that Governor has assured that he will speak to CM Deb regarding this matter.
