Hundreds of people from Tripura’s civil societies, students, NGOs, officials of the forest department, troops of paramilitary forces, state chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb and forest minister Mevar Kumar Jamati joined a ‘run for green Agartala’ on Sunday.

The run was organised by the forest department of Tripura.

After flagging off the run started from Umakanta mini stadium, both chief minister Deb and forest minister Jamati also took part in it.

The run was organized to create awareness among the common people about the necessity of planting trees to save the earth.

This year’s motto of the run was ‘each one plant one’ and it was part of the month-long Vanamahotsav 2019.

The run covering 2.5 km of road in the capital city of Agartala concluded at the Vivekananda stadium where a plantation programme was held besides distribution of free saplings among the participants.

Tripura government has taken a major initiative and a plantation drive aiming at planting at least one sapling by each citizen of the state with a population of more than 37 lakhs.

It may be mentioned that the state created a record of planting 6,500 saplings within a minute along the National Highway on Saturday.
